Works with what you already have
Ruby House Alerts wraps around the cameras and sensors you already own. We integrate, we don't replace.
If you have Ring doorbells, a Nest thermostat, Reolink cameras, a Wyze pan-tilt, an Aqara hub, or any combination of the dozens of brands families have accumulated over the years — we work with them. Our platform speaks to most major home security and presence brands through their official APIs, open RTSP video streams, or our own custom bridges. Tell us what's already on your wall and we'll build the rest around it.
That means lower up-front cost, less e-waste, and a faster path to having something useful running on night one. When a specific brand isn't a fit for the role we need it to play — for example, a cloud-only camera that can't deliver video locally — we'll tell you honestly and suggest alternatives in the same price range.

Sensor types we work with
The right sensor for the right role. We mix and match across an installation depending on the room, the lighting, the resident's habits, and what's already on the wall.
PIR (passive infrared)
Reliable motion detection in well-defined zones. The workhorse for hallway and bathroom coverage.
mmWave radar
Detects presence and micro-movement through soft obstructions like blankets. Excellent for bedrooms where stillness can be misleading.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
Room-level presence from a worn or carried tag, when the family chooses to use one.
Magnetic contact
The gold standard for door and window open/close events. Battery life measured in years.
Ultrasonic
Fine-grained distance and approach detection, useful around stairs and beds.
LIDAR
Where precise spatial mapping matters — for example, distinguishing a person standing from a person seated.
RFID
Tag-based presence for high-value or wandering-prone items.
Time-of-Flight (ToF)
Compact, low-power distance sensing for tight spaces.
Compute and AI
Inference runs on a deliberately diverse, on-premises compute footprint — a mix of Apple Silicon, AMD Ryzen, and ARM single-board computers, with edge AI acceleration for low-latency object and pose detection. The heterogeneity is intentional: it gives us graceful degradation if any single node fails, and it lets us match the right model to the right job.
On the model side, we combine multimodal language model reasoning, on-device object detection, pose estimation, and custom-trained classifiers tuned on real overnight footage from real bedrooms (with explicit family consent). The blend is what reduces false alarms — a single model alone is brittle; a chorus is not.
Alerting channels
Multi-channel by design. A single failure on any one transport does not silence an alert. See the Platform page for the full list and roadmap.
