Terms of Service

Last updated: May 21, 2026

1. Service Description

Ruby House Alerts is a Detroit-based automated notification service that sends safety-related SMS, WhatsApp, voice, and push messages to designated caregivers and family members. Messages include fall detection alerts, wandering detection alerts, egress events, and nightly status summaries related to elder care monitoring.

2. Eligibility and Consent

This service is available only to individuals personally designated by the system administrator as caregivers or family contacts. By providing your phone number and agreeing to receive messages, you consent to receive automated safety alert messages. You must be 18 years or older to participate.

3. Message Frequency and Content

Message frequency varies based on detected safety events. You may receive critical alerts at any hour (fall, wandering, or egress detection) and a nightly summary message. Typical volume is 1-5 messages per night. Messages relate exclusively to elder safety monitoring — no marketing or promotional content will ever be sent.

4. Opting Out

You may stop receiving messages at any time by replying STOP to any message. You may also contact the administrator directly to be removed from the alert roster. After opting out, you will receive one final confirmation message and no further messages will be sent.

5. Costs

There is no charge for this service. Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply.

6. Disclaimer

This is a supplementary safety monitoring tool, not a professional medical monitoring service. It does not replace professional medical alert systems, 911, or in-person care. While we strive for reliability, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service or detection accuracy. The system may produce false positives or miss events. Always call 911 in an emergency.

7. Limitation of Liability

This service is provided "as is" on a best-effort basis for family use. The operator assumes no liability for missed alerts, delayed messages, false alarms, or any consequences arising from reliance on this system.

8. Changes to Terms

These terms may be updated as needed. Recipients will be notified of material changes via their registered contact method.

9. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from or relating to this service that cannot be resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Wayne County, Michigan. Service recipients agree to personal jurisdiction in those courts.

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
